John Nevell

We have exciting news!

John and Theresa are proud to announce that Nevell Family Dental will be entering a new stage with Dr Kate Amos, and Dr Sam Rosehill joining Theresa, and our beautiful practice undergoing a complete renovation.

A letter from John and Theresa

Theresa and I are very pleased to advise that the legacy of our practice will soon be continued by Dr Kate Amos and Dr Sam Rosehill. Our practice has been a family practice in the truest sense of the word, and one of the great pleasures of having a family practice has been to treat the children, grand-children and even great grand-children of original patients. One such example is Kate. Her family has lived locally for many generations and have been patients at the practice as well as family friends. As a child, Kate attended the practice and impressed us all with her challenging and intelligent questions about the working of various components and treatments. Little did we know that Kate had already decided to become a dentist, just like us!

We watched her progress through university with Honours and were not surprised when she was recently awarded the title of Australian Young Professional of the Year.

There are considerable benefits to be had for a dentist married to another dentist, and we are thrilled that our patients will still get to enjoy the family atmosphere that this brings. Kate’s husband, Dr Sam Rosehill also graduated with Honours and is acclaimed in his own right, with prior roles lecturing nationally and internationally. The two share a passion for ethical, family dentistry and are determined to continue our legacy of non-corporate, individualised care. We are also thrilled that Theresa will continue to work with Kate and Sam. She is very much looking forward to the injection of youthful enthusiasm.

We wish to thank you, our patients, for your loyalty over the years. It has been our pleasure to be your family dentists, and we hope you will continue to support us as the practice embarks on the next chapter of its history. As part of this transition, we will be updating some of the facilities during August and September and we value your patience while we do this. We intend to host a welcoming event in October to mark the occasion, and an invitation will be forthcoming. In the meantime, we wish to openly invite you to come and visit, see the renovation plans and meet Kate and Sam.

Thank you again for your loyalty and company over the years. We hope you will be as excited about this new adventure as we all are.

With many thanks and warm regards,

Dr John and Theresa Nevell

john nevellJohn graduated BDS from Sydney University and set sail for England, where he established two dental practices in London. It was there that he developed an interest in orthodontics, from seeing so many children with untreated crooked teeth.

After four years in London he returned to Australia, practicing in Rylstone and Mudgee. At this time he also lived on and ran an 1800 acre property first settled by his forbears in 1828.

Orthodontics remained a major interest and John attended hands on courses at the Dental Hospital in Sydney, fortnightly for six years.

For 20 years John regularly travelled from Mudgee to Coffs Harbour to treat his brother Ian's orthodontic patients.

These visits allowed fierce child-hood body-surfing competition between Ian and John (which had begun in Coffs in the 1930s) to continue.

John married Theresa in 1989 and they have formed a happy personal and dental partnership ever since. They purchased Ian's practice in 1990.

While enjoying most areas of dentistry John particularly enjoys treating children with orthodontic problems. In some cases he is now treating the grand children of earlier patients.

John is a keen skier and he and Theresa like nothing better than to scream down the slopes wherever the snow might lead them.

He is a compulsive inventor and has numerous dental inventions to his credit.  One of these, a super-fast autoclave, won him a trophy from the ABC New inventors.
